On MetaTrader5 (MT5), you can set up two-factor authentication for your account. To enable it, you need to have an authenticator app, e.g., Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy, installed on your phone beforehand. Please note that two-factor authentication is only available if it is allowed by your broker. If not, you will not see the option to enable it.
Here we will look at how to set up two-factor authentication on MT5.(*1)
(*1)Two-factor authentication is not available on MetaTrader4 (MT4).
Right-click on the account you are logged in to in the Navigator and select "Enable 2FA/TOTP" from the context menu.
When the "Enable 2FA/TOTP for account" window appears, open the authenticator app on your phone and scan the QR code.
Enter the one-time password on the mobile app into the "One-time password" field and click "Enable 2FA".
Once the two-factor authentication is enabled, the "Enable 2FA" button will be changed to "Login". Click the button to proceed.
The login window will open. Enter the one-time password on your mobile app into the "One-time password" field and click "OK".
When two-factor authentication is enabled for an account, you must enter the one-time password every time you log in to the account. If you close MT5 while logged in to the account, you will be asked to enter the one-time password the next time you start MT5.
